The night air is soft, warm and tinted with earth smells. The sky around the full, friendly moon is rich with color and promise. Walking through the meadow on a night like this is intoxicating because each breath is unique, rich with the promise of a gift or a revelation.
This is a night to fall in love or to feel one with god in nature. Tonight is a night to stretch your soul and enter into an emotional bond with the land and your neighbors.
Then you enter the woods and the clouds pass in front of the moon adding movement to shadows. The shadows seem alive. They are alive. They touch you. Cool to the touch, they make goose-bumps on your arms. Under the larger trees the shadows grow deeper, the moon fades to a dull silver-grey glow, and a chill breeze raises hairs along your neck all the way out to your shoulders. Quickly, glancing over your shoulder, you run out into the next meadow, the clouds thin away and you see your moon shadow behind you and you feel safe and confident again. You are no longer under the shadows of a dark night. |
