While living in Granada, Spain, I enjoyed noticing the little differences between their vegetables and ours. Also, I had just seen a small showing of Arcimboldo paintings. He painted surreal portraits by composing fruit, vegetables, twigs, even fish.

So, I went to the market and started drawing and painting the produce that was for sale. Eventually, I composed my Smiling Veggies and rendered them with a small set of watercolors. I think the onion is my favorite of all the produce.
